Thermal Aerosol Generator Case Study

What is Thermal Aerosol Generator?

The thermal aerosol generator designed for cleanroom validation and HEPA/ULPA filter integrity testing.

Key features: fast heating, high aerosol output, and stable particle size.

ISO 14644-3:

  • Stable and measurable aerosol concentration

  • Particle sizes within 0.3–0.7 µm

  • Geometric Standard Deviation (GSD) ≤ 1.7

NEBB (National Environmental Balancing Bureau) Guidelines:

  • Ensure uniform aerosol concentration across test section

  • Particle concentration: typically 10–100 µg/L (mass concentration)

How It Works?

The unit vaporizes liquid test agents (e.g., PAO-4, DOS) using thermal energy. The vapor is then cooled with inert gas to generate polydisperse aerosol particles (0.3–0.7 µm) for use in filter challenge testing.

Applications:

  • Pharmaceutical Cleanrooms

  • HVAC & FFU Systems

  • Air Handling Unit (AHU)

aerosol photometer

GTI Solution: 3990-02 Thermal Aerosol Generator

  • Fast startup within 2 minutes

  • High output capacity (up to 70,000 cfm) easily handled large cleanroom airflow requirements

  • Stable particle generation ensured compliance with ISO 14644-3 and NEBB standards

  • User-friendly interface enabled real-time monitoring and simplified operation

Client Feedback

“The 3990-02 thermal aerosol generator has transformed our filter integrity testing. Its fast startup and stable output significantly improved our efficiency.
When used together with the
3990 aerosol photometer, we achieved consistent and reliable results across cleanroom validations. Highly recommended for pharmaceutical applications.”
